“Snowpiercer” and “The Host” director Bong Joon-ho finally returns to cinemas next year with the highly anticipated global adventure tale “Okja” which is being produced and distributed by Netflix.
The story follows a young girl, Mija (Ahn Seo-hyun), working to prevent a multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive but shy and introverted animal named Okja.
Today, EW has posted new photos including a first look at Ahn Seo-hyun as Mija, Lily Collins as Red, and a storyboard of Collins’ scene which involves racing along the streets of Manhattan. Joon-ho describes the sequence and explains the theme which shifts from the class warfare of “Snowpiercer” to the flaws of capitalism here:
“Red is part of a group of animal rights activists that figure into the story. [We shot] on Wall Street, it’s the heart of capitalism. In the surface is a story about an animal, but it’s essentially a story about capitalism.”
Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, Giancarlo Esposito, and Paul Dano also star in the film which will premiere exclusively on Netflix this Summer.
