Netflix’s recently launched genre series “The Umbrella Academy” has been renewed for a second season. Production is expected to be underway from May through to September ahead of an airing early next year.
The series is based on the award-winning comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, though headed in a whole different direction which means the potential storyline of a second season is uncertain.
The story follows a group of estranged, super-powered family members who have to come together and work through their personality quirks to solve the death of their father and the potential end of the world. Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Mary J. Blige, Kate Walsh and Cameron Britton co-star in the series.
Critical reviews were mixed-good, but independent analytics have suggested it was a massive hit for the streamer.
