Ignacio Serricchio (“Bones,” “Zoe Ever After”) has scored the key role of Major Don West in the upcoming remake of Irwin Allen’s 1965 cult sci-fi TV classic “Lost in Space”.
Legendary TV is producing the limited series which centers on the Robinson family who is forced to come together after being stranded light years from their intended destination. They find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons.
In this version Serricchio’s Don West is a roughneck smuggling luxury goods on the side who finds in the Robinsons the family he never thought he would find. Mark Goddard played the role in the 1960s series and Matt LeBlanc starred in the part in the 1998 film adaptation.
Serricchio’s casting is the last of the key roles from the original to be filled. Toby Stephens and Molly Parker star as the parents John and Maureen Robinson while Max Jenkins, Mina Sundwall and Taylor Russell play the kids Will, Penny and Judy respectively. Parker Posey will play a female version of the slimy Dr. Smith.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are penning the series, Zack Estrin will serve as showrunner and Neil Marshall will direct several episodes. The new “Lost in Space” is slated for a 2018 premiere.
