It’s hard to top Tom Holland, even if you are Tom Holland it seems, as the recent second trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” set viewership record numbers even as it didn’t quite beat its predecessor.
Deadline reports that the second trailer for Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which was released last Wednesday, has racked up an astonishing 590.8 million views in its first week, according to WaveMetrix.
That’s the second biggest trailer launch of all time, behind only… the first trailer for the film, which launched back in March and surpassed 1 billion views in just four days.
First-day advance ticket sales for the film were the biggest for any movie in the last five years, the biggest since “Spider-Man: No Way Home” back in 2021. Holland and Zendaya are currently on a global press tour for the film.
The story of the new film begins a while after we last caught up with our friendly neighbourhood hero and Peter Parker is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves.
Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.
Also starring are Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman.
Destin Daniel Cretton directs “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” which opens in cinemas on July 31st.
