CBS Television Productions has announced a new deal with executive producer Alex Kurtzman which will extend his agreement with the studio to five years and supervise the expansion of CBS’ “Star Trek” franchise for television.
This includes developing new series, mini-series and animated projects based on the property with one of the projects potentially seeing Patrick Stewart reprising his famous role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard from “Star Trek: The Next Generation”.
Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman are currently attached to the project led by Stewart, though a deal has not yet been reached. Kurtzman and his Secret Hideout company will also develop new, original series across the full spectrum of broadcast, cable and streaming platforms.
Kurtzman is set to take over as sole showrunner on the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery” for CBS All Access and Netflix.
