Universal Pictures, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have premiered the trailer for “SOULM8TE,” a spin-off of the “M3GAN” franchise which is ditching cinemas and going straight to digital on August 1st.
Jordan, James Wan and Ingrid Bisu crafted the story which reportedly aims to harken back to those lurid domestic erotic thrillers of the late 1980s/early 1990s – albeit with a modern, technological twist.
In the film, a grieving widower engineer is tasked with testing a ruthless tech giant’s new AI companion. When he attempts to program her to be a truly sentient soulmate, she develops needs of her own
Essentially, the movie sounds like it’s trying to copy the “Obsession” craze with an AI angle rather than a supernatural one. The film was originally scheduled to hit cinemas back in January.
Universal pulled it from the calendar and rumors swirled that the project was going to be sold off. That’s not the case though; Universal is retaining the film, but the digital premiere news was revealed today.
Kate Dolan (“You Are Not My Mother”) directs the feature from a script co-written by Rafael Jordan (“Salvage Marines”). Wan and Jason Blum are producing the project
The M3GAN spinoff movie is finally being released.
SOULM8TE debuts on Digital August 1, 2026.
