Even though the film doesn’t open until December, “Aquaman” star Jason Momoa says he’s already coming up with specific ideas for the sequel and has been offering them up to those involved.
The James Wan-directed DC Comics adaptation has not yet greenlit a sequel, and the trailers show that the filmmaker is holding very little back – incorporating four of the comic’s key villains: Ocean Master, Black Manta, The Trench and King Nereus. Speaking with Total Film (via Syfy Wire), Momoa says that despite the all-in approach, he’s got more ideas flowing:
“I definitely have an opinion. Even when we were shooting Aquaman, I have the opening of Aquaman 2 ready. I went in and pitched it to [producer Peter] Safran, and I pitched it to [Warner Bros. chairman] Toby Emmerich. They loved it. It’s awesome…But yeah, I have plans for Aquaman 2.”
Wan agrees, saying there are a lot of stories to tell in the “Aquaman” corner of the DC universe:
“There’s definitely stories, even within the world we’ve created, that you can actually see other storylines [spinning off from] as well. There’s the Aquaman story, but then there’s the stories of the seven different kingdoms as well. I think those would be very fun to explore.”
Wan has also tweeted out the first look at some of the creatures that will be featured in the upcoming film, in this case the ones that serve as the trusty steeds of King Orm (Patrick Wilson) and Vulko (Willem Dafoe).
