The third season of HBO’s “True Detective” is finally in the works with Mahershala Ali slated to lead the new season of the anthology series which very much hopes to recapture the glory of its first season.
That eight episode first season run starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as detectives Marty Hart and Rust Cohle respectively, roles which won both great acclaim in what’s considered one of the best single TV runs of the past decade.
McConaughey in the past has indicated he’d have no hesitancy to reprise his role should a good enough script come along. This week though, Harrelson tells Yahoo that he’s ruled out playing Marty Hart again for a very obvious reason:
“I don’t see doing that [again], because it went very well the first time and come back around to it, what else are you going to hear but, ‘Not as good! Just wasn’t as good. Boy, you guys were good before, but this time…’ I don’t want to even hear that”
Harrelson may have a point considering the second season of the series was widely slammed in reviews and reaction. Jeremy Saulnier helms all the episodes of the new season which hasn’t set an air date as yet.
