Universal launches its Dark Universe initiative with “The Mummy” next week starring Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella and Russell Crowe. That film, which is rumored to have a post-rebate budget of $125 million, looks to be emblematic of the other movies in the series the studio plans to develop including “The Wolfman” and “Bride of Frankenstein”.
Now though, Heat Vision reports that not all the films under this banner will be similar costly affairs with the budgets said to “range dramatically”. The trade adds that micro-budget producer Jason Blum (“Split,” “Get Out”) has ‘expressed interest’ in shepherding a low-budget entry into this monster universe.
The report doesn’t indicate which potential character or property Blum has his eye on to develop. The immediate next film in the series is Bill Condon’s “Bride of Frankenstein” which is scheduled for a February 2019 release.
