A line in a new article from Empire magazine has gone viral as it seemingly indicates one rumor about J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: Episode IX” is true – we’re getting a time jump.
The line, first highlighted by Vanity Fair, says Finn actor John Boyega has confirmed the film takes place one year after the events of ‘The Last Jedi’. The article doesn’t include a direct quote from the actor, but specifically states Boyega himself confirmed it.
Boyega was the first to stoke rumors of a time-jump earlier this year when he revealed his character will grow out his hair for the next installment. A year later is a far bigger jump than between ‘Force Awakens’ and ‘Last Jedi’ in which events were effectively consecutive.
The new film is expected to use previously unreleased footage shot for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” of Carrie Fisher’s General Leia rather than recast the role or create a CG approximation. Matt Smith, Dominic Monaghan, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell join the cast for the final outing which opens next December.
