Producer Jason Blum and actor/producer Mark Walhberg are teaming up to adapt the buzzed-about New York magazine cover story “The Stolen Kids of Sarah Lawrence” into either a feature or limited series.
Blumhouse Productions picked up the rights to the piece by Ezra Marcus and James D. Walsh and Blum, Wahlberg, Scoop Wasserstein and Stephen Levinson will produce the project. Should it go the film route then Wahlberg would star.
The article follows a group of young women and men attending the prestigious liberal arts college of Sarah Lawrence who found themselves in the orbit of ‘Larry Ray’, the charming but manipulative father of one of their classmates.
Released from prison he promptly moved into the dorm of his daughter, cooking fancy steak dinners and regaling students with stories of his work being a CIA operative and former Marine. He also had various connections to New York’s political scene which fizzled in the wake of securities fraud and domestic abuse charges.
Ray soon took charge of the kids’ lives, whisking them away to a private apartment in New York for a summer. He turned kids against parents, inserted himself physically into their sex lives and abused them. None turned against him, even praised him, ultimately though a couple of students escaped his mental shackles.
