George R.R. Martin’s “Nightflyers” Goes To Pilot

After first announcing it was in development in May, Syfy has now ordered a pilot based on “Nightflyers,” the 1980 novella by “Game of Thrones” author George R. R. Martin.

In the project a crew of explorers journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft that might hold the key to Earth’s survival.

As the crew nears their destination, they discover that the ship’s artificial intelligence and never-seen captain may be steering them into deadly and unspeakable horrors deep in the dark reaches of space.

Jeff Buhler (“The Midnight Meat Train”) has penned and will executive produce the series in which Martin has no involvement. Gene Klein, David Bartis, and Doug Liman will also executive produce. The property was previously adapted onto film in 1987.

The join both the Superman prequel series “Krypton” and graphic novel adaptation “Happy!” which were ordered to pilot a few months ago and have now been ordered to series.
