Earlier this week came word from a source that Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” sequel was about to get a name change… again.
A few weeks ago at a junket in the UK for “The Martian,” Scott suggested that the film would go by the title “Alien: Paradise Lost”. It was always a placeholder name though, something to use until Scott settled on a title he liked.
Now he’s found one. Scott attended the AFI Film Festival this week in Los Angeles and dropped the new title during a conversation:
“I was going to be doing what will be called ‘Alien: Covenant,’ which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling then with the screenplay there and then there was a phone call, somebody saying, ‘Listen, we’ve got this thing which is completely written called ‘[The] Martian,’ and I said, ‘Huh.’ And I sped read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, ‘I need to talk to Drew [Goddard]…'”
“Alien: Covenant” is slated to begin shooting in February in Sydney, Australia ahead of a May 30th 2017 release.
