More “X-Men” Casting Talk Emerges

Universal Pictures

More casting talk related to Marvel Studios’ long-in-the-works “X-Men” film has continued to surface in the wake of a rush of casting in the past week or two.

At present, there are three actors set – Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Kit Connor as Cyclops and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.

According to scooper DanielRPK, Marvel has also chosen an actor to play Charles Xavier, and it is not anyone who has previously been rumored such as Bill Skarsgård or Tom Pelphrey.

Scooper Jeff Sneider has indicated that while Drew Starkey and Cooper Hoffman were early contenders for Cyclops, the actual runner-up for the role that Kit Connor beat out was “Sex Education” star Asa Butterfield.

If true, it would mark Butterfield’s second time being a high-profile MCU ‘runner-up’. A little over a decade ago, the actor was said to have been the runner-up to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man – a role that ultimately went to Tom Holland.

Shortly after that went up, Borys Kit at THR shot it down, saying it was actually a different Asa – “Scream 7” and “Gen V” star Asa Germann – that was up for Cyclops and may still get a different role in the film.

He also indicates Christopher Abbott tested for Professor X. There are also long-standing rumours that Adam Driver has a role in the film, but it’s not clear which one at present.

The sudden rush in casting announcements comes ahead of Disney’s D23 next weekend, where a full cast announcement/reveal is expected to take place.

Sonny Lee Sung Jin (“Beef”) and Joanna Calo (“The Bear”) recently came aboard to write a new draft of Michael Lesslie’s script.
