Marvel Studios’ “X-Men” reboot aims to begin filming next year, seemingly in the early part of it, according to one of the key actresses involved.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY”
Casting has been rolling out for the film in recent days which pretty much confirms that production is gearing up. Most recently we’ve had the news of Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Kit Connor as Cyclops.
They’ll join “Stranger Things” alum Sadie Sink who was revealed as Jean Grey in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” officially bringing mutants into the MCU.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, Sink says it’s already locked into her schedule:
“We’ll shoot X-Men, and then I’m going to do a series with FX and A24 called The Marriage Plot, so that’ll be next year. With Stranger Things ending, it’ll feel weird next year not being like, Oh wait, we got to shoot another season. We have to get ready to go back to Atlanta to shoot. It’s exciting to be able to have more room in the schedule.
It was kind of nice to start out with the negative side of it with Jean, how she’s just learning what she’s capable of. And before she can even develop her relationship to her powers and what they mean to her, they are used by people who want to do harm with what she’s capable of, what her sister’s capable of..=”
She also spoke with Variety whom asked her if she’s had discussions with director Jake Schreier about what to expect on “X-Men”. She says:
“It’s been really exciting all the conversations we’ve had, and I feel really lucky that I have this introduction through “Spider-Man” and [her] backstory. I think that’s what X-Men is all about, too. The more I’ve gotten into it and researched, what makes them special is that they are all incredibly flawed and maybe have done bad things. That makes them more compelling, complex characters and a more complex hero if they don’t start out that way. And they have to find their relationship to their powers. Because it’s not like they’ve asked for this or that these strengths make their lives easier; they make them a lot harder, actually. So, knowing Jean’s struggle will be important in the future of her character and where she goes, just makes her really well-rounded, which I’m excited for.”
She also confirms she has not met any of her fellow cast mates on the project but “I hope to very soon.”
