After a reported year of negotiations, Leonardo DiCaprio has decided he will indeed star in Michael Mann’s “Heat” sequel when filming begins in November says The Wrap.
DiCaprio will reportedly tackle the role of Chris Shiherlis, the part played by Val Kilmer in the 1995 original.
Earlier this month, reports indicated the cast of the film was essentially playing some version of musical chairs as DiCaprio was deciding whether to take that major role or the smaller supporting role of Neil McCauley, Robert DeNiro’s character from the original.
DiCaprio choosing the Shiherlis confirms he’s committed to filming the part for much of Mann’s reported six-month film shoot, which spans multiple countries.
With him locked into that part, the rest of the cast seems to be firming up with Christian Bale to play cop Vincent Hanna whom Al Pacino played in the original, and Jason Clarke up for fixer Nate whom Jon Voight played in the original.
The outlet also indicates that reports of Stephen Graham being in talks for the Neil McCauley part are true, while a “number of actresses” are up for Ashley Judd’s role of Sharlene. Adam Driver will play new psychopathic villain character Otis Wardell.
Amazon MGM Studios will reportedly spend $170 million to make the film with production spanning Chicago, Paraguay, Singapore and a 77-day shoot in Los Angeles.
