“It Follows” and “Under the Silver Lake” filmmaker David Robert Mitchell has reportedly been enlisted to pen the third film in the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” film franchise.
Scott Cawthon, who created the games, penned the first two films. However, both movies have been heavily panned by critics with the script seen as one of its weakest elements.
The hiring of Mitchell, who’s about to return to screens with the upcoming “The End of Oak Street,” is seen as a big step up.
The news was revealed by actor Skeet Ulrich (via Jonny Blox) who was appearing at Sinister Creature Con where he confirmed Mitchell’s involvement:
“We’re waiting on the third script to make the third film. The guy who wrote ‘It Follows’ is writing it right now, apparently, it’s a lot of Matthew Lillard and I.”
The first film made $297 million off a $20 million budget, the sequel earned $240 million from a $36 million budget. Both films had dismal critical aggregate scores with the sequel sitting at just 13% on Rotten Tomatoes.
