“Kiki’s Delivery Service” Becomes A TV Series

Studio Ghibli

BBC Studios Kids & Family, U.K. production company Wheel in Motion and Japan’s Kadokawa Corporation are all teaming up for a “Kiki’s Delivery Service” live-action television series.

Currently in development, the project is planned as ten half-hour episodes drawn mostly from the first volume of Eiko Kadono’s six-book series which launched in 1985 and has sold millions of copies worldwide.

The story follows a 13-year-old witch named Kiki who leaves home and relocates to the port town of Koriko, where she sets up a delivery service and forges new friendships.

The property was famously adapted to the screen back in 1989 when Studio Ghibli acquired the screen rights, and Hayao Miyazaki himself directed the beloved animated adaptation.

Irena Brignull (“The Boxtrolls,” “The Little Prince”) is attached to write the series.
