Prequel “John Rambo” Set For June 2027

Lionsgate has officially announced that its “John Rambo” film has locked in a June 4th 2027 release date.

Noah Centineo (“The Recruit,” “Street Fighter”) stars in a story set during the Vietnam War, years before the events of “First Blood,” with Rambo a soldier fighting a war in the jungle.

David Harbour takes on the role of Major Sam Trautman, Rambo’s commanding officer. James Franco, Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White and Tayme Thapthimthong co-star.

“Sisu” helmer Jalmari Helander directs the project from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (“Black Adam,” “The Mauritanian”). Sylvester Stallone and Anthony and Joe Russo executive produce.

The “Rambo” “franchise stretches across five films, beginning with 1982’s First Blood and running through to “Rambo: Last Blood” released in 2019. All five of those films starred Stallone in the role.

No other films occupy that date at present, the movie being slotted in between “Star Wars: Starfighter” on May 28th and “How to Train Your Dragon 2” on June 11th.
