Paul Thomas Anderson Wins Top DGA Honor

Warner Bros. Pictures

Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson won the top prize at the 78th annual DGA Awards.

Anderson took home the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film honor for last year’s “One Battle After Another,” the film an awards favourite this season.

The honor is seen as one of the most reliable predictors of winning the Academy Award for best director. Anderson beat out Ryan Coogler, Guillermo del Toro, Chloe Zhao and Josh Safdie for the prize.

On the TV front, Amanda Marsalis’ work on the mass shooting episode of the first season of “The Pitt” took the top dramatic series prize while Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg won for the top comedy series prize for their single take episode ‘The Oner’ in “The Studio”.

Other winners included Shannon Murphy for her “Dying for Sex” work taking the limited or anthology series win, Stephen Chbosky for telemovie with Netflix’s “Nonnas,” Mike Sweeney for reality/game show for “Conan O’Brien Must Go,” and Liz Patrick for “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” for variety.

Oscar and Emmy-nominated comedian Kumail Nanjiani hosted the event in Beverly Hills.
