Grammy-nominated singer Benson Boone appears to have settled on his first acting gig.
A new report at The InSneider claims that Boone is tipped to be joining Sydney Sweeney in the upcoming live-action “Gundam” movie at Legendary Pictures and Bandai Namco Filmworks.
It’s not clear if the new film will tell an original story or be an adaptation of one of the prior series in the franchise. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the original series began in 1979 and is set in the Universal Century, an era in which people have emigrated to space colonies because of a growing population on Earth.
Those living in the colonies seek their autonomy and launch a war of independence with battles fought by piloting robots known as mobile suits. One of the cornerstones of all anime, the internationally renowned franchise spans 83 animated series and movies while its toys generate over $600 million annually.
Comic legend Brian K. Vaughn is penning the film which “Sweet Tooth” showrunner Jim Mickle is directing. The project was first announced back in 2018 but only began to properly head towards production this year.
No word at present who Boone might be playing but Sneider says talk of his involvement come from multiple sources. Boone’s songs, used in such films as “Twisters” and “Karate Kid: Legends,” include “Mystical Magical,” “Beautiful Things,” “In the Stars” and “Slow it Down”.
