Wolfhard Talks “Stranger Things” Spin-Off

Netflix

Not long ago, Netflix finally set a date for the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things,” the last run to be spread across three separate dates with an epic finale.

But that won’t be the end of the franchise. As previously reported a few years back, a live-action spin-off series is in development – one that is “going to be different than what anyone is expecting, including Netflix” according to series co-creator Matt Duffer back in 2022.

Now Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler in the main series, has offered some new details on the yet to be officially announced series.

Speaking with Variety, he says the spin-off will be an anthology series. While the “Stranger Things” seasons are tributes to various 1980s works, the spin-off appears to take its inspiration from one of the culture-defining works of the early 1990s:

“Like David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. Sort of an anthology and different tones, but [a] similar universe or [the] same universe. I think set in different places and all tied together through this mythology of the Upside Down.”

He also indicated that characters from the original series aren’t likely to appear, but it’s still very early days yet:

“Don’t even talk about Hawkins. Don’t have any mention of our characters. They were toying around with ideas in case Netflix wanted them. I’m sure they do, and I’m sure it will happen, but there’s nothing official. I think the coolest way, the way that I would do it, there has to be labs everywhere. If there was one in Hawkins, there’s one in Russia. Where else could they be?”

The fifth season of “Stranger Things” begins its rollout on Netflix on November 26th.
