Dylan O’Brien (“The Maze Runner,” “Love and Monsters”) will star opposite Rachel McAdams in the darkly comic horror thriller “Send Help”, which Sam Raimi will direct and produce for 20th Century Studios.
The project, dubbed “Misery meets Cast Away,” is being seen as Raimi’s return to the horror genre. It also marks the first horror film he has directed since 2009’s “Drag Me To Hell.”
McAdams stars as Linda, a woman on a business flight with her irritating boss Bradley (O’Brien). The plane crashes, leaving them stranded on a deserted island – the only two who survive. While Linda has serious survival skills, Bradley… does not.
They must overcome past grievances and work together to survive, but ultimately, it’s a battle of wills and wits to make it out alive. Mark Swift and Damian Shannon (2009’s “Friday the 13th”) penned the initial script with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (“A Quiet Place”) doing a re-write.
Zainab Azizi will produce the film, which is targeting a theatrical release, likely sometime next year. “Send Help” will mark the first time Dylan O’Brien and Sam Raimi have worked together, whereas McAdams worked with Raimi on the “Doctor Strange” sequel.
O’Brien is coming off well-regarded performances last year in “Saturday Night,” “Caddo Lake,” and “Ponyboi.” He’s back at Sundance this coming week with “Twinless.” He also not long ago shot down long-standing rumors that he was up for the roles of Spider-Man and The Flash at one point, saying he never got even remotely close to anything beyond a ‘casting pre-call’ on any superhero project.
