ABC has cancelled its comedy series “Home Economics” after three seasons. The series revolved around three adult siblings (Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee and Jimmy Tatro) and their families.
The show averaged the smallest Nielsen-measured audience among the five ABC comedies that aired last season with a 0.55 rating and 2.92 million viewers per episode in Live+7.
It was one of two shows on the ‘bubble’ at the network, the other is “The Rookie: Feds” whose fate remains unknown. ABC now has three comedies for the new season – “Abbott Elementary,” “The Conners” and “Not Dead Yet”.
Additionally, ABC has also pushed the Kaitlin Olson-led crime drama “High Potential” to a Fall 2024 debut. That was the only new series order ABC made at its upfronts in May.
Drew Goddard created the show about a single mother with an exceptional mind whose unconventional knack for solving crimes has her teaming with a by-the-book seasoned detective (Daniel Sunjata).
The cancellation and delay here are just the start of what’s expected to be a massive shake-up of broadcast network schedules in the coming weeks as they try and salvage what’s left of the season.
Even if the actor’s strike ends in the next week or two as hoped, the networks will be racing to produce new episodes and aren’t likely to have anything back on the air until March at the earliest.
