De Niro’s “Taxi Driver” Returns For Uber?

Columbia Pictures

Oscar winner Robert de Niro will reportedly revive his iconic character Travis Bickle from Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver” for an upcoming advertising campaign for Uber according to The U.S. Sun

De Niro played the troubled cabbie in a decaying and morally bank New York City in the 1976 movie. The character utters the now immortal line “you talkin’ to me” – a line expected to be reprised by the 80-year-old actor.

De Niro scored a Best Actor nomination for his role in the film, playing a Vietnam veteran who takes the job of a graveyard shift cab driver to cope with his depression and insomnia.

The film was a critical and commercial success, despite controversy over its ending, and in 1994 was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry.

The publication claims the series of ads will be filmed this week in London and marks De Niro’s latest work in commercials – having helped sell Warburton’s bread and the Kia Nero car.

The trade adds that the brand hopes to add famous passengers as cameos in the series of ads.
