Drew Barrymore Scraps Show Return Plans

Drew Barrymore has announced she won’t be bringing her self-titled talk show back until the strike is over.

The move follows on from a week of headlines in which the actress and host of “The Drew Barrymore Show” initially revealed her show would be returning without writers and would abide by strike rules in not discussing struck work.

Barrymore issued a video apology after she received a major pushback from the industry and the writer’s guild itself. That video apology was subsequently taken down.

Today she issued a new statement on Instagram, saying:

“I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over. I have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who works on the show and has made it what it is today. We really tried to find our way forward. And I truly hope for a resolution for the entire industry very soon.”

A spokesperson for the series added a statement saying: “We support Drew’s decision to pause the show’s return and understand how complex and difficult this process has been for her.”

Following this news, CBS’ “The Talk” announced a similar action – scrapping their plans to return on September 18th. CBS says in a statement: “will continue to evaluate plans for a new launch date.” Syndicated talker “The Jennifer Hudson Show” has also halted return plans.
