Chris Nolan Bond Film Rumors Resurface

Universal Pictures

For years, filmmaker Christopher Nolan has often come up in discussion of potential Bond movie directors. He’s British, a big fan of the series, and interested in doing so – calling such a possibility an “amazing privilege” earlier this year.

He’s also very much an auteur, someone who essentially demands full control of any project he’s working on. So, the restrictions of working within a franchise template and under producers who control it and weigh in on decisions, seem to chafe with that freedom.

Yet the Bond franchise itself stands at a crossroads. Daniel Craig’s tenure is done, his version of the character gone and there’s no clear path forward as to where the franchise might go now. If ever there was a time for an blank slate reset – this is it.

Now, a source for World of Reel claims that Nolan is in “very serious contention” to both write and direct not one but two instalments, with producer Barbara Broccoli zeroing in on Nolan.

The report alleges that only early discussions have been had so far, and issues with the strike and Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” commitments have only further delayed talks.

A key issue is, unsurprisingly, the amount of creative freedom Nolan wants for the film. Nolan undoubtedly would have to be involved in every stage of the process. Consider this a pure rumor for now but it does pose some interesting questions.
