“The Nun 2” Nabs $3.1M In Previews

Warner Bros. Pictures

The latest “The Conjuring” spin-off, the sequel to 2018’s “The Nun,” got off to a strong start at the box office domestically. The movie reportedly pulled in $3.1 million in Thursday night previews.

The first “Nun” became the highest-grossing entry in the series to date with $365.6 million from a $22 million budget. The sequel boasts a production budget nearly double that of the first at $35-40 million.

New Line is reportedly hoping for a $30-33 million domestic opening weekend and is expected to easily take the top spot from “The Equalizer 3” along withholding off “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” which also arrived this weekend.

However that opening is a considerable drop from the first “Nun” movie which pulled in the highest opening of any movie in the “The Conjuring” universe with $53.8 million.

The film currently stands at 45% (5.1/10) on Rotten Tomatoes which is considerably better than the woeful 24% of the first film – but still not good.

Taissa Farmiga returns as Sister Irene in the film which this time unfolds at a boarding school in France. Jonas Bloquet, Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell and Bonnie Aarons co-star.
