The sales agent for the Kevin Spacey-led U.K. indie thriller “Control” is reportedly aiming to get a theatrical U.S. domestic release before the year is out.
Strath Hamilton, co-CEO of TriCoast Worldwide, tells THR they “would like to have the film in cinemas in December” and are engaged in “serious conversations” with buyers in the United States and United Kingdom.
Gene Fallaize pens and directs the film, which follows the British home secretary (Lauren Metcalfe) as she drives home one night while engaging in a secret love affair with the prime minister (Mark Hampton).
Meanwhile, another man (Spacey) knows her secret and has been badly affected by it. He seeks revenge, plotting to remotely hijack the fully self-driving car she’s now trapped in and forcing her on a rampage through the streets of London.
The news comes just days after the two-time Oscar winner’s U.K. criminal trial over multiple counts of sexual assault ended last week with Spacey cleared of all nine charges.
“Control” marks just one of a small handful of projects Spacey’s been cast in recently.
