PS5 Console Sales Hit 40 Million

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that PlayStation 5 sales have reached 40 million units worldwide – just two months behind the amount of time PS4 took to reach that figure.

Of course, the PS4 didn’t have to deal with pandemic-induced supply chain disruption which made the console difficult to buy for up to two years after release.

Now though? PS5 supply is well-stocked at retailers, and price cuts are expected to be announced soon for the United States and Europe.

The company intends to ship 25 million PS5 consoles this financial year ending March 31st 2024. If achieved, that would set a sales record for Sony, whose biggest single sales in a financial year was with the original PlayStation when it shipped 22.6 million units in financial year 1998.

The news comes as the company gears up for its biggest exclusive title of 2023, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,” hitting stores on October 20th.

However, users on Reddit indicate multiple Middle East countries have reportedly removed the title from local PlayStation website listings with talk that the game could be delayed in those countries while content is censored to adhere to local customs and values. That report is unconfirmed at this time.
