Following The CW announcing back in May they weren’t moving forward with their plans for a live-action “Powerpuff Girls” TV series, the final chance of the project seeing the light of day has been snuffed out.
Following The CW ditching the project, the series was returned to Warner Bros. TV, which was free to continue developing the series and potentially take it to another platform.
Unfortunately TV Line reports that Warners has now opted to scrap the series entirely with the project “no longer in development in any form or fashion.”
The project was first announced three years ago when reports broke that The CW was developing this live-action reboot of the fan-favorite Cartoon Network animated series created by Craig McCracken.
“Powerpuff” scored a pilot order the following year, with Chloe Bennett, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault cast as Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, respectively. Donald Faison was cast as their father, Professor Utonium.
In May 2021, The CW passed on the series but planned to retool and re-pilot the show with the same cast and creative team. The project remained active for at least another year.
An animated reboot is in the works at Cartoon Network with McCracken involved.
