“Bones and All” and “Call Me By Your Name” director Luca Guadagnino will direct the HBO series adaptation of “American Psycho” and “Rules of Attraction” author Bret Easton Ellis’ novel “The Shards”.
Ellis revealed the news in an interview with El Independiente (via World of Reel) and said not only will Guadagnino be helming the series, but there will be subplots not present in the original novel.
Released earlier this year and marking Ellis’ first novel in thirteen years, the story follows seventeen-year-old Bret – a nihilistic, 17-year-old, bisexual San Fernando Valley trust-fund senior at the exclusive Buckley prep school.
It’s there a new student arrives with a mysterious past. Robert Mallory is bright, handsome, charismatic, and shielding a secret from Bret and his friends even as he becomes a part of their tightly knit circle.
“The Shards” is reportedly meant to have three seasons made up of ten episodes each, with Ellis to write every episode.
Guadagnino previously worked with HBO on the 2020 miniseries “We Are Who We Are”, starring Jack Dylan Grazer, Jordan Kristine Seamón and Alice Braga. his next film is the sexy tennis thriller “Challengers” starring Zendaya and Josh O’Connor which opens this Fall.
