“Insecure” Hits Netflix, More HBO To Come

HBO

HBO’s comedy “Insecure” has now begun streaming on Netflix, marking the first time an HBO original series has been made available on a rival streaming platform in the United States.

A few weeks back came word that several Warner Bros. Discovery-owned titles would be added to Netflix and now this confirms it with all five seasons of the show hitting the rival platform today.

In addition, the HBO series “Band of Brothers,” “The Pacific,” “Six Feet Under” and “Ballers” will join them whilst “True Blood” will be added to Netflix outside the United States.

HBO has rarely licensed out its originals – exceptions being the TBS syndication of “Sex and the City,” and several shows licensed to Amazon such as “The Sopranos” and “Deadwood” before HBO had its own streaming platform and took them back.

The deal aims to give some of HBO’s libray titles a potential new audience whilst also offering a financial boost for the company as Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav aims to cut costs an help bring the company out of debt.

“Insecure” creator/star Rae re-posted the streamer’s Instagram announcement adding a “Now playing [on] Netflix” graphic.
