Mazin Worked On “Dune: Part Two” Script

HBO

“The Last of Us” and “Chernobyl” creator/showrunner Craig Mazin has revealed he worked on the script for Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two”.

Speaking on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Mazin said that: “They have this additional ‘literary material’ thing at the end so I am ‘Additional Literary Material.'”

‘Additional Literary Material’ is a new credit established for works made from January 2022 onwards offering recognition to essentially those who’ve worked on a film script but cannot claim authorship. It recognises script doctors and others who’ve contributed to the film or show’s script in some way such as dialogue polishes and targeted character work.

Villeneuve himself and Jon Spaihts are the sole credited screenwriters on the film which adapts the second half of Frank Herbert’s famed novel.

The story will explore the continuing journey of Paul Atreides who is united with Chani and the Fremen. As he seeks revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.

Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgard, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem all reprise their roles from the first film and are joined by Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux, Tim Blake Nelson and Christopher Walken.

“Dune: Part Two” is set for release on November 3rd. Once the writer’s strike ends, Mazin is set to work on the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us” which will shoot in Vancouver early next year.
