CBS Cancels “True Lies,” “East New York”

Hot on the heels of it officially reversing its three-day-old decision to cancel “S.W.A.T.,” CBS has cancelled both the police procedural “East New York” and its TV series reimagining of James Cameron’s “True Lies” after just one season.

The cancellations came down to CBS and Warner Bros. Television being unable to come to an agreement over the show’s budgets, which included CBS asking that the cast not get pay increases going into the second season.

CBS has renewed other shows on its lineup, such as comedies “Bob Hearts Abishola,” after asking the cast to take pay cuts or by shifting series regulars to recurring status.

Amanda Warren starred in “East New York” as deputy inspector Regina Haywood, the newly promoted boss of the 74th Precinct, which is a working-class neighborhood on the edge of Brooklyn in the midst of social upheaval.

Jimmy Smits, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Kevin Rankin co-starred in the series which hailed from creators William Finkelstein and Mike Flynn. The finale will air this Sunday May 14th.

Steve Howey and Ginger Gonzaga starred in “True Lies” which hailed from “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix. It will now air its series finale on Wednesday, May 17th.

Whilst “East New York” scored decent reviews with a 68/100 on Metacritic, “True Lies” was widely panned with a 49/100 on that site.
