“Star Wars: New Jedi Order” Aims For 2025?

Lucasfilm

Though three “Star Wars” film projects were officially announced as being in the works last Friday, Lucasfilm hasn’t committed any of them to a timetable as yet.

A new feature piece in THR indicates that one of the reasons for this is likely due to Lucasfilm’s bad experience having previously dated “Star Wars” movies before they were put in production – notably Patty Jenkins’ “Rogue Squadron” which subsequently fell apart.

Now the trade indicates Lucasfilm that the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy-directed film, set fifteen years after the sequel trilogy in a period officially dubbed the ‘New Jedi Order’, is the farthest along and looking to be the film that will take the December 2025 release date currently set aside for a “Star Wars” project.

in addition, the hope is the Dave Filoni-directed movie, which will bring together the various shows of the Disney+ Mandalorian universe, will arrive the following year.

The three new movies are still years away from being made and released. James Mangold’s feature, one set in the far past of the Star Wars Universe, would ideally be tackled after the filmmaker makes his Bob Dylan biopic for Paramount (shooting is expected to begin this summer).

Filoni’s film depends on the interlocking TV series and will have to factor in timelines of a fourth season of “The Mandalorian” and a possible second season of “Ahsoka” depending upon how well the latter performs.

Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy says they haven’t decided if they’re bringing back Mark Hamill to play a Force Ghost in the new Rey film. Speaking with Variety, she says: “I don’t know if we’ll spend a lot of time in flashbacks or [on] Force ghosts or things like that, but certainly, the spirit of what he represents to her is going to be significant.”
