The newly rebranded Max is re-teaming with Chuck Lorre for a new series set in the same world as former CBS hit “The Big Bang Theory”.
Story details are under wraps for the second spin-off, following the prequel series “Young Sheldon,” of television’s longest-running multicamera comedy series ever.
Whether this will be a prequel or sequel isn’t known and so far, none of the original cast’s names are attached. The project was announced today as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s investor presentation.
The original “The Big Bang Theory” was launched in 2007 and was created by Lorre and Bill Prady. It aired for twelve seasons on CBS, ending in 2019 after 279 episodes.
Warner Bros. Television, who produced it and ‘Sheldon,’ are also behind this. The original show also streams exclusively on Max following a landmark deal with Lorre and Warners.
Meanwhile, “Young Sheldon” currently ranks as the most-watched comedy on broadcast among total viewers.
Lorre has previously indicated he would only continue the show if the entire cast – Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch – twanted to.
Those stars earned $1 million an episode by the show’s final season.
