Demetrius Grosse (“Fear the Walking Dead,” “Justified,” “Banshee”) has officially signed on for the upcoming Marvel TV series “Wonder Man” for the Disney+ service.
Grosse will play Eric Williams, the brother of Simon Williams aka Wonder Man (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). He joins a cast that also includes Ben Kingsley reprising his “Iron Man 3” and “Shang-Chi” role of actor Trevor Slattery.
First introduced in comics in 1964, Wonder Man is a gifted engineer who gains superhuman abilities and becomes an enemy of The Avengers – though he has also fought alongside the team of Marvel heroes in various capacities. In the series he’s expected to be on the heroic side but not quite as noble as that Avengers lot.
In the comics, Eric is the black sheep of the family as opposed to the doted upon Simon. Eric eventually turned toward a life of crime. He adopted the name Grim Reaper and uses a scythe with coma-inducting powers.
Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) and writer-producer Andrew Guest (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) are developing the property with Guest serving as head writer.
Filming is expected to begin this spring. Grosse was first connected to the property a few weeks back.
