Jon Bernthal’s Punisher Returns To “Daredevil”

Netflix/Marvel

Jon Bernthal will reprise his role Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, in Marvel Studios’ “Daredevil: Born Again” series. Bernthal will join Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the series, which has just begun shooting in New York.

Also confirmed today is that two familiar faces from the original series, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, will not be returning. The pair played classic Daredevil supporting characters Karen Page and Foggy Nelson in Marvel’s Netflix series and it’s unclear if those characters will be recast or simply aren’t in the story.

‘Born Again’ will clock in at double the length of most streaming series these days with 18 episodes to be produced. Filming on the project will is expected to run throughout the year and won’t be finished until near Thanksgiving.

Bernthal first played The Punisher during the second season of the Netflix version of “Daredevil” in 2016. He then went on to lead his own “The Punisher” series for two seasons that ran from 2017-2019.

Despite the name of the new run, it’s not clear how much of the series will follow the famed Frank Miller-penned 1986 storyline and The Punisher didn’t appear in said story. The new run is expected to keep the focus on Daredevil versus Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.

Both Cox and D’Onofrio are key figures in Marvel’s upcoming “Echo” series which sets the stage for “Daredevil: Born Again”. Bernthal most recently lead the cast of Showtime series “American Gigolo”.
