Adam Driver Wraps Coppola’s “Megalopolis”

Sony Pictures

Actor Adam Driver has confirmed that he’s finished his filming commitments for Francis Ford Coppola’s mega-budget epic “Megalopolis”.

The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this story of a New York woman which is divided between loyalties to her father, who has a classical view of society, and her lover, who is more progressive and ready for the future.

Coppola wrote the script and is himself financing the $100 million project which, despite one brief flurry of reports during filming, appears to be going to schedule.

Speaking about the film whilst out promoting his new time-travel prehistoric action feature “65,” Driver has nothing but praise for the project. He tells Paste Magazine:

“‘Megalopolis’ is one of the most exciting things that I’ve ever been a part of, with Francis [Ford Coppola] in particular. It’s one of the best shooting experiences I’ve had. And the things that he’s made, there’s no frame of reference for it. It’s so unique and inventive and hopefully accessible by everyone. That it’s not so elusive that it’s for a certain audience, it’s for everyone. And he is everything that you hope he will be… He made it himself so he would have control over the thing it was. He kept pushing it to be as inventive as it could be.”

Nathalie Emmanuel, Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Talia Shire, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Schwartzman, and Dustin Hoffman co-star in the film with Driver saying he wrapped his filming at “four o’clock in the morning in Atlanta” ahead of the day’s junket press for “65”.

Filmmaker Mike Figgis is currently shooting a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the film. “65” opens in cinemas this Friday whilst “Megalopolis” could hit at end of year, or more likely in 2024.
