The recently released “Hogwarts Legacy” has received not just very good reviews but has been a massive sales success thus far from early indications.
Released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 10th, first-week sales of the game in the UK outpaced that of last year’s gaming juggernaut “Elden Ring” by a whopping 80% and that’s with the latter game also being available for prior generation consoles.
The title also reportedly had the biggest European launch for a video game, outside of the “FIFA” and “Call of Duty” franchises, in nearly five years – namely the biggest since “Red Dead Redemption 2” in October 2018. Its first-week digital sales in Europe clocked in at 56% higher than “Elden Ring” says GamesIndustry.biz.
Despite the success, the game’s director Alan Tew tells IGN there are no plans for DLC at the present time. The reason is that the team had been working hard to launch the game itself and include everything in there that they could to the point that they haven’t had time to focus on an expansion.
He says: “We’ve been really heads down bringing [Hogwarts Legacy] to life. So at the moment there are no current plans for DLC.” The game hails from developer Avalanche Software, who is best known for the “Disney Infinity” franchise. They released a major patch for the title this week to fix various gameplay performance and stability issues that have cropped up – especially on PC.
The game was originally meant to release in 2021 but saw itself delayed twice until its arrival last week. Whilst Rowling was not involved in the game, she does stand to make licensing royalties from the title.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game arrive on April 4th and the Nintendo Switch version hits July 25th.
