Another week has gone, and another round of rumors about the upcoming DC Studios slate that co-CEO James Gunn has taken to Twitter to debunk.
In the wake of Gunn and Safran unveiling their plans for the first phase of the new DC universe – ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters’ – at the end of January, speculation has been rife.
As per usual, Reddit threads and fan sites have been breathlessly reporting highly speculative rumors with Gunn popping up every now and then to shoot down some of the wilder chat.
One that has come up deals with the age of these heroes. All that we know officially is that Gunn indicated he was going for a younger Superman for his “Superman: Legacy”. Henry Cavill, now 39, was 30 years old when he played a 33-year-old Clark Kent in 2013’s “Man of Steel”.
One report emerged suggesting Gunn was casting quite young, with his Superman to be around 25 years old. That report got picked up in numerous places, including the trades, but Gunn has now shot it down.
When a fan asked Gunn if his take on Batman in the upcoming “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” film would be played by an actor in his early 30s, Gunn replied: “He hasn’t been cast yet.”
Another fan was surprised by that and re-iterated the 25-year-old Superman story. Gunn responded to that by saying:
“Nope! It keeps getting repeated but I never said that. People are speculating about both ages. All I ever said was Superman was younger than in his forties and Batman MIGHT be a couple years older than Superman.”
He also shot down a wilder rumor suggesting the new Superman will have a son in the film, saying: “I never said Clark is going to have a child”. So don’t expect a Jonathan Kent either.
“Superman: Legacy” is slated to hit cinemas in July 2025, so expect a lot more of this kind of talk in the near future.
