Some more film runtimes have been announced with two films clocking in a little differently than expected. Just like with the upcoming “Scream VI” which will clock in as the longest entry in the “Scream” franchise to date, so to will the upcoming “Evil Dead Rise”.
The Lee Cronin-directed, apartment building-set fifth “Evil Dead” feature clocks in at 96 minutes long – relatively short compared to other recent horror films like “Halloween Ends” (111m), “The Black Phone” (103m) or last year’s “Scream” (114m).
Compared to prior entries though it runs long with the original “Evil Dead” at 85 minutes, the second at 84 minutes, “Army of Darkness” at 81 minutes and the 2013 remake at 91 minutes.
The new film will focus on two estranged sisters Elle (Alyssa Sutherland) and Beth (Lily Sullivan) reconnecting after years apart in one of the sister’s cramped apartment in Los Angeles. The Necronomicon soon begin to turn things crazy.
Meanwhile, the upcoming DC superhero sequel “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is going in the opposite direction and will clock in at 130 minutes – two minutes shorter than its predecessor.
David F. Sandberg returns to helm the new entry which continues the story of teenage Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who, upon reciting the magic word ‘SHAZAM!,’ is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego Shazam (Zachary Levi).
When the vengeful ancient gods known as the Daughters of Atlas, including Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago – Billy’s family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.
“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” opens in cinemas on March 17th, whilst “Evil Dead Rise” arrives on April 21st.
