“Power Rangers” Johnson On Reunion Absence

USA

Yesterday came the reveal of the first images and footage from the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always,” a scripted standalone special reuniting some of the most memorable characters from the franchise for its 30th anniversary.

The special sees David Yost back as the original Blue Ranger Billy Cranston and Walter E. Jones back as the original Black Ranger. Two of the other original cast members Thuy Trang (Yellow Ranger) and Jason David Frank (Green Ranger) have passed away, whilst Austin St. John (Red Ranger) is dealing with legal issues.

That leaves the only question mark regarding Amy Jo Johnson, who played the first Pink Ranger Kimberly Hart from 1993 to 1995. In a tweet today, Johnson has explained her absence, saying it was by choice and she has no ill will towards the production.

In the tweet, she says: “For the record, I never said no. I just didn’t say yes to what was offered. But other fun stuff is in store! Looking forward to watching my friends kick ass!.”

The reunion special will also star Steve Cardenas as Rocky DeSantos, the second Red Ranger; Catherine Sunderland as Kat, the second Pink Ranger; Karan Ashley as Aisha Campbell, the second Yellow Ranger; and Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam Park, the second Black Ranger.

In addition, Barbara Goodson, who provided the American voice of original Power Rangers villain Rita Repulsa, as well as Richard Horvitz, who voiced their robot sidekick Alpha, are returning.

Johnson continues working in the industry. Most recently she directed a second season episode of The CW’s “Superman and Lois” with a shot of her alongside a suited-up Tyler Hoechlin going viral last year.

“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always” will premiere globally on Netflix on Wednesday, April 19th.
