New DC Studios co-head James Gunn has continued to shoot down rumors about the upcoming retooling of the big screen DC universe – this time taking to task geek site reports about a certain bit of casting.
Rumors swirled the other day that 25-year-old 6’5 Australian actor and “Euphoria” star Jacob Elordi is playing Clark Kent in the Gunn-penned young Superman film he has in the works. The in-demand Elordi has been fan cast in several superhero roles in recent months.
The Superman rumor gained traction following Gunn’s reveal of the project a few weeks ago and the confirmation Henry Cavill won’t be returning to the role.
Gunn took to Twitter today to tell people to slow their horses as casting for the role is a long way off:
“My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet. Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t. We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them.”
In other words, it sounds like wishful thinking. The new Superman film remains the only announced project thus far as part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s eight-to-ten-year DC plans, the first parts of which are to be revealed later this month.
Warner Bros. Discovery has made it clear getting a new Superman film out is a priority for them and so whoever is cast will be carefully chosen and likely announced with great fanfare.
