2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” closed out with a post-credits sequence in which a new character not in the main narrative of the film was introduced – Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 voiced by Oscar Isaac.
In said sequence, O’Hara was seen travelling to the universe of the 1967 Spider-Man animated series and recreating the iconic moment of the two Spider-Men pointing at one another.
It has already been confirmed the character will return for the upcoming “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” as the film’s first trailer shows him fighting Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales for reasons unknown at this time.
Speaking with Empire recently, the film’s producer/co-writer Phil Lord says the sequel will see the character emerge as the multiverse leader of the team of Spider-people – a team that’s lacking focus:
“Miguel O’Hara is the leader of a band of fighters that are trying to clean up the consequences of the collider explosion at the end of the first movie. And as you can imagine, it’s really hard to lead a bunch of people who have never been led [laughs].”
Isaac indicated this year that Miguel would be making no jokes during his time on the screen, with his character being a “very serious Spider-Man” which makes for a contrast with the various wise-crackers around him.
Russian Doll’s Greta Lee voices his character’s A.I. in the film, which sees the various Spider personalities taking on the villain The Spot (Jason Schwartzman).
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” hits cinemas on June 2nd .
