“Andor” Season 2 Filming Now Underway

With the first season finale of “Andor” now available on the Disney+ service, the eyes of “Star Wars” fans turn towards the next season and when we can expect it.

As previously reported, the second season will follow a much faster timeline, with each three-episode block spanning a year and with the finale leading into the events of “Rogue One”.

Collider spoke with showrunner Tony Gilroy who confirmed the second season would kick off with a time jump to one year after the final scene in the first season finale, and “[a] great deal has happened in the interim”.

With Cassian now invested in the rebellion, the show has other responsibilities to turn to including Gilroy assuring fans they plan to introduce the “Rogue One” character of droid K-2. Diego Luna, Genevieve O’Reilly, and Duncan Pow are all expected back with Forest Whitaker and Stellan Skarsgård very likely to return as well.

Shooting began this week with Kyle Soller’s Syril Karn character being the first on camera. Filming of the twelve episodes will run through until August next year. Asked about the extent of his own involvement next season, Gilroy says he’s “doing exactly what I did last season.”

Asked when we can expect the new season to hit screens, he says: “If past is predicate, and we do the same thing we did before, it’ll be on the same schedule. It will come out two years later.” This fits with reports of a 2024 launch for the second season.

Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios are set to direct blocks of episodes, with Dan Gilroy and Beau Willimon returning to write alongside newcomer Tom Bissell.
