The DC Comics adaptation “Black Adam” retained the crown at the Halloween weekend box office.
The film pulled in an estimated $27.7 million domestically in its second outing, a fall of 59%, which is one of the bigger declines for a Dwayne Johnson-led film. As superhero films go it’s not that bad as films like “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Eternals” fell 68% and 62%, respectively.
“Black Adam” is expected to sit on a domestic total of $111.1 million by end of Sunday. Overseas it fared even better, declining just 45% for a further $39 million and a foreign haul of $139 million.
The Julia Roberts and George Clooney rom-com “Ticket to Paradise” held well in its second weekend, dropping 39% to $10 million. The film has taken in $33.7 million domestically and $119.4 million globally.
Horror film “Prey for the Devil” opened in third place with a so-so $7 million, fighting off still in the market rival horror fare like “Smile” in fourth place with a further $5.1 million, and “Halloween Ends” with another $3.8 million. “Smile” has been a smash globally – taking in $186 million worldwide off a $17 million budget.
“Till” expanded nationwide and pulled in a further $2.8 million and marks only the third 2022 release to receive a coveted A+ CinemaScore from audiences following “Top Gun: Maverick” and “The Woman King”.
“Tár” also expanded wide and grossed a further $1 million for a domestic total of $2.5 million through Sunday. Limited releases of both “Armageddon Time” and “Call Jane” however fizzled – the former hitting six screens and earning just $12,000, the latter opened on over 1,000 screens and earned just $204,755.
