After four years, Oprah Winfrey and Apple TV+ are set to end their multiyear content deal.
Sources indicate Winfrey and Apple TV+ will continue to work together on a project-by-project basis, and will continue their collaboration on Oprah’s Book Club.
The news comes just a few days after the debut of the documentary “Sidney” on the Apple TV+ service. It deals with the life of Sidney Poitier and was produced by Winfrey and directed by Reginald Hudlin
The original non-exclusive pact encompassed film, TV, applications, books and other content that could easily be distributed on Apple’s platform.
It also came at a time when streamers were aggressively pursuing high-profile producers, which led to massive deals for the likes of Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy, J.J. Abrams, Greg Berlanti and more.
The value of some of those deals, and how much they have actually paid off in the time since, has come under scrutiny in recent times.
