Eman Esfandi (“King Richard”) has been officially cast as the live-action incarnation of long-missing Jedi Ezra Bridger in the upcoming “Star Wars: Ahsoka” series for the Disney+ service. CineLinx first broke the news, with THR subsequently confirming it.
Esfandi joins series star Rosario Dawson in the series, which continues the adventures of Ahsoka Tano – the one-time apprentice to Anakin Skywalker who was last glimpsed in the sixth episode of “The Book of Boba Fett”.
Ezra Bridger was the lead character of the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels”. In that series, he was last seen propelled into parts unknown on board an Imperial ship (along with Grand Admiral Thrawn) in order to save the crew of the ship Ghost.
The series ended with Sabine Wren and Ahsoka Tano setting off on a journey to find him. When Ahsoka first appeared in live-action form in “The Mandalorian,” which takes place nearly a decade later, she was searching for Thrawn.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo was cast as Wren in “Ahsoka” a while back, while Hayden Christensen will reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker.
Also onboard are Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, and Ray Stevenson in so far undisclosed roles. “Ahsoka” is currently in production ahead of a 2023 release.
The casting comes just before Saturday’s main D23 panel which is expected to include a first-look at a number of “Star Wars” projects.
